All our sites use symlinks to produce seach engine friendly URL's. We offer websites (especially our directories), that target local markets where marketing is not as fierce as a national or global customer website. Symlinks, however, in our sites is achieved by using .htaccess which is for Apache. Also our sites use MySQL for a database. If your windows server does not have MySQL, then the sites will not run, also .htaccess on Windows can be a problem. Prozilla 2.0 only tests and recommends Cpanel/Linux servers.

If you are using a home Windows based server, you can download Wamp Server, which is an open source program that has bundles Apache, PHP, PHPmyAdmin and MySQL in an exe program which you can find here: http://www.wampserver.com/en/. Wamp does work on XP, Vista and I do have it installed on a Windows 7 machine (Windows 7 took a little playing with though), but to use it, you should be somewhat familar with how to set up your network and use a static ip (or a static ip service to use your Wamp server. Also, as there is no control panel like Cpanel, Plesk or Ensim, most configuration is done manually with PHPmyAdmin being the only interface you have. Help can be found though on there forum. Once we have have some spare time, a Wamp project will be in our forum.

The best place to start learning how to market this site is through the forum where we have articles that expain some marketing techniques. Prozilla 2.0 focuses on local websites because it is realistic to market if you have a website that targets a decent niche that isn't overrun. The biggest place to start is with Google. To start, pick a domain that will brand you, meaning, something people will remember so any content or generic places your name or website will be seen will stick in people's heads. Next, Google AdWords. Familuarize yourself with keywords that work in your area and create a low budget account. I will do a basic AdWords article today that will explain some basics or creating an account. After you get started with AdWords, next get a small marketing package (like a flyer) together than you can mail out to relevant customers. Tell them about your directory and that if they act quick it's free! When the customer creates a listing, email them and say thank you and ask if they would be interested in a link exchange on their website, ot better yet, if they don't have a website, you can offer them one. (we will have generic CMS sites soon).

After you have a few listings, you can work on the free generic listings, by submitting to Google, Bing and Yahoo to start. The next process is to to create 'backlinks' which is an article in itself. Info on backlinks can be found in the forum.

By spending a hour a day for a week or so, you can get in a pretty good position and start seeing results. This is when you can look at feature and advertising sales. Good luck, see you in the forum!
