We have used this for the new website we built. All root traffic is now 301 directed to our new address. Awesome, as Calgary painting and Calgary Painters rankings are competative.

I have to say that I got a chuckle out of your response to the obvious spam comment that was first. Creating backlinks, especially with anchor text, is a true way to leave backlinks on someone else's blog post.

Thanks for the content,

I approved the above comment (but did change the URL) as an example as to how someone can create a backlink from a blog. By commenting on this post and leaving information such as their name, email and website address (he didn't leave one in the field, but in the post itself), the commenter is creating a backlink to his own website.

The only problem is that its not a quality backlink. Not even close.

Normally for comments like these Akismet (a WordPress Plugin) would detect this as spam and mark as such.

This type of post is a Black Hat technique and it's obvious is was submitted via a robot or simular program.

First, comments like this are a waste of time. When you look at SE's such as Google, the robots that spiders this page, will look at the link and see it has nothing to do with the article itself. The commenter did use a nofollow tag for the keywords World of Warcraft Hunter Pets, and a blog address which can help with rankings, but too many of these on two many irrelevant blogs, will put the domain on a spam list.

Don't try this at home kids. Google and other major SE's see right through this black hat technique.

We use the Alexa technique with Firefox that is in the forum to boost ratings. We went from 18,000,000 to 2,000,000 in a couple months which has helped rankings in SE's.

A 301 redirect is being used on http://www.hypertrax.com where we used to have an SEO Directory. The 301 redirects to the Prozilla located directory at http://www.prozilla.com/directory. If we decide to move the directory again to the main prozilla.net domain where our blog is, then we will create a 301 for Prozilla.com and update Hypertrax.com's .htaccess. This way we do not loose any rankings that the domains have.

Another way of adding .htaccess to folders that may require CHMOD permission be set to 777 is allowing only localhost to upload items, but remove the handlers. This would be useful for a script that allows uploads of attachments:

<Files *>
	Order Deny,Allow
	Deny from all
	Allow from localhost
</Files>
RemoveHandler .php .php3 .phtml .cgi .fcgi .pl .fpl .shtml .txt
